New Moon in Aries: Saunter into Spring

New Moon in Aries: Saunter into Spring

The New Moon in Aries occurs the 28th of March 2017 at 7°37’’ of Aries.

Try checking what area of your birth chart is ruled by Aries or the house where your natal Mars is found for more insight.

If you are new or new-ish to astrology, this post is a good place to start for generating your birth chart and checking out which part of your chart is being touched by this lunation.

You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.

And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Saunter into Spring

Eat your heart out, Eckhart Tolle.

Aries, like a child, lives in the immediate present; for Aries, there is only the ‘power of now.’

Aries is angry, now. Hungry, now. Horny, now – dammit!

But while Eckhart’s focus is on the pursuit of consciousness, Aries is usually living la vida carnal.

We shouldn’t throw the zodiacal baby out with the bathwater, though. While it’s true that Aries may be impatient, self-centered, and easily given to brash reactions, the Aries archetype holds essential learning.

For starters, Aries almost never lacks a connection to their inner impulses that urge them forward. Given the right conditions, we might call that intuition.

Secondly, Aries knows what it wants, which is otherwise known as clarity.

Lastly, Aries is unafraid to back themselves and take a leap (even when it’s not such a great idea – but I digress). Herein lies the modern day version of the holy grail: self-esteem and confidence.

For these reasons and more, many Aries natives have a certain robustness and capability in meeting life head-on. Say what you will, and oh, how the more-spiritual-than-thou types may grimace at the mention of it, but there are certain upsides to this dirty ego business.

With a clarity of vision and the will to make things happen, Aries’ true opponent is the small matter of time, which doesn’t bend to anyone’s will, no matter how enthusiastic or confident you may be.

Pace matters, and in matters of pace, the ram rides slightly roughshod.

Aries can be the fool that rushes in and forgets to check the fine print. Subconsciously, some Aries equate their confidence with a kind of divine right to have what they want, when they want it. And once their target is in the crosshairs, Aries uses its warrior ways to bring what it desires into immediate manifestation.

The New Moon in Aries, however, is about respecting the very real need to slowly and organically move towards what you want; in short, this lunation is a call to stop trying to make things happen, and just allow them to happen.

This particular kernel of sagacity comes courteous of the lunation ruler, Mars, in the sign of Taurus, a sign that represents the wisdom of nature.

For those that are still waiting for Spring to return, you may have noticed that nature never rushes. Although many memes exist impelling you to find your passion, take the leap, and stop making excuses (which is very Aries), sometimes the best thing we can do is nothing much at all.

In life, as in nature, there is a season for everything.

So, the New Moon in Aries is not a leap forward or a risk-it-all tumble of the dice as we may expect.

The seed that asks to be planted now begs to be nurtured and only shoved onto the conveyor belt when it is truly ready. Anything initiated at this New Moon may take longer than normal to manifest, but when it does, it will be just as it should be.

As part of that, we may have to find the balance between what we feel our soul wants to bring forth and what the moment requires (Saturn square Pallas). With Venus retrograde conjunct the Sun, we may still be sifting through what truly matters to us. We may be in the process of finding ways to instill structure and stability into our efforts (Saturn trine Uranus & Mercury). There may yet be more dreaming or brainstorming to be done (Mars sextile Neptune).

Still, the urge to break out may feel very real. Mercury (the mind) and Uranus (the rebel) are spicy bedmates that might make for shocking conversations or brilliant flashes of insight – just the kinds of insights we might otherwise miss out on if we are too busy speeding along to our next destination.

For now, take it easy.

Keep calm and germinate – your dreams will thank you.

Asteroids + Other Bits

With Aries’ ruler Mars in the slow sign of Taurus, this is more of a saunter into Spring than a skydive. For some, this will feel like being knee-deep in bull-sleep. Try to visualize the end-game, if you’re the impatient type.

There could also be a certain amount of clarity vis-à-vis the current Venus retrograde: Venus retrograde conjunct the Sun heralds a rebirth or personal New Moon for Venus; Mars trine Juno suggests intense passion/desire as well as productivity in relationships; Black Moon Lilith trine Venus can make for incredibly sexy, no-holds-barred healing in love.

Regarding other asteroids, we’ve got a few minor planets on repeat during the New Moon in Aries.

Lilith is still knocking around from the Full Moon in Virgo, but she is now conjunct asteroid Goddess Pallas-Athena (healing, the marriage of creativity and strategy). In my mind, I imagine Pallas coming to call on Lilith as she writhes in solitude in her desert cave, with a doctor’s bag in tow. Pallas in some ways could be a great partner to Lilith, an excellent Thelma to her Louise.

Pallas is not looking to fight with men (although she’ll give them a run for their money if they try), and she knows the power of healing, especially as it relates to kundalini, the coil of sacred, sexual energy that sits at the base of our spine. Together, Pallas and Lilith can use sex or creativity for healing and craft a future for themselves in a cozy cave-commune.

In a more straightforward interpretation, we could have received healing or solutions (Pallas) if we were previously struggling to contain our inability to compromise (Lilith). There could have been a healing release of anger or rage.

Another repeat is asteroid Hybris (hubris, oversteps), which was conjunct Chiron (pain, healing) at the Solar Eclipse in Pisces. Hybris, alongside asteroids Abundantia (abundance) and Mathesis (learning), is now conjunct the Moon.

An Aries Moon on its own may have more than a small dose of hubris, but as long as we don’t go overboard this isn’t necessarily terminal; starting anything new requires a certain amount of arrogance.

On the other hand, we can learn a lot (Mathesis + Abundantia) when we overstep a boundary (Hybris).

Don’t be afraid to toe the line (pun intended), the learning will be worth it.

*I am now very fancy and produce my charts using Solar Fire. At each lunation, the luminaries (Sun & Moon) will be in yellow, while the lunation ruler and the planets in aspect to it will be in green (in this case: Mars, which sextiles Neptune and trines Juno).
