New Moon in Libra, October 19th, 2017 // Burning Down the House
Here’s your ticket pack your bag
Time for jumpin’ overboard
The transportation is here
Close enough but not too far,
Maybe you know where you are
Fightin’ fire with fire
My house! Is out of the ordinary
That’s right! Don’t wanna hurt nobody
Some things sure can sweep me off my feet
Burning down the house
– The Talking Heads, “Burning Down the House”
Some men just want to watch the world burn; Uranus is just that type of guy.
Uranus: the change-maker, the rebel, the ‘antidote to Saturn.’ His light is our internal flash of brilliance as well as the lightning strike that topples our house.
Uranus’ manner is drastic, illuminating, revelatory even, but never subtle. When Uranus comes for you, ignore him at your peril – not that you’ll be able to ignore him for long. Suppressing the Uranian urge for change often creates eruptive blasts of discord that we often label as fate.
Indeed, Astrology transits involving Uranus often hold a humbling sense of ‘before’ and ‘after’; often, we cannot return to ‘before’ and are forced to stake out a new, uncertain future.
These are all important things to consider as we approach the New Moon in Libra, which directly – and intensely – opposes Uranus. With additional contacts to Saturn, this New Moon is three parts Uranian madness, one part Saturnine sensibility.
This Moon seems to ask: can you strike a mix between breaking new ground (Uranus) and staying grounded (Saturn)?
Sun and Moon opposed to Uranus can create emotional surprises, shocking events, or breaks in relationships of all kinds. The houses in your chart ruled by Aries and Libra will feel shaken, not stirred.
Sun and Moon sextile to Saturn, on the other hand, can feel sober and cautious.
To make the most of this New Moon, you’ll need to find the middle ground, somewhere between burning it all down and using these powerful sparks to ignite something new (and sensible).
You’ll likely have fires aplenty to stoke, with Venus in Libra, the lunation ruler, providing a suitably airy atmosphere for Ceres to fan her Leonine flames; Uranus delivers the fuel.
Together, this planetary posse reads as finding a way to nurture your need for self-expression (Ceres in Leo) and still connect with a team, group, or relationship (Venus in Libra). We may need to re-think how we relate to others or break away entirely if the structure has become too restrictive (Uranus).
Permanently chaining ourselves to another person, place, or possessions does something diabolical to the soul. Like a candle flame under the damper, we can end up losing our spark.
This New Moon, as potent as they come, is a preventive measure to right the ship and bring us back into our most important relationship – the one we have with ourselves.
Put another way: come on baby, light your fire.
