New Moon in Sagittarius, December 2017 // Say A Little Prayer
I have searched for faith, which people keep telling me is the greatest and rarest of gifts, but I see now that talent is the great gift, the pearl of great price, and a mean seductress, for you can only search for it in others: It will never arise from within you through faith or prayer.
They say that practice makes perfect; it’s a shame that prayer alone can’t do the same.
‘Thoughts and prayers’, the preferred mantra of American right-wingers (usually employed when doing anything would be better than thoughts and prayers), is just another emanation of the cleverly packaged ‘love and light’, the anthem of left-leaning woo’s (usually employed when doing anything would be better than sending love and light).
Saturn would not be impressed with either camp: as the planetary patriarch embodying hard work, discipline, and limits, his patch of tilled Earth is one that’s only cultivated by hard yards – love, light, thoughts, and prayers be damned.
Saturn has been in Sagittarius since 2015 but will enter Capricorn in just a few days.
This journey has not always been comfortable.
Where Sagittarius seeks to leap forth, Saturn pulls back on the reigns; where Sagittarius sees grand plans, Saturn sees only cautious baby steps forward.
Sagittarius is a sign full of faith, but Saturn is a planet full of fears.
…until Saturn gets the lay of the land, that is.
Then, he becomes masterful and authoritative, the one you can rely upon to get shit done.
With continued application, and sure, a bit of luck, Saturn has been teaching us powerful lessons about showing up and doing the job, even if, and especially if, our faith is in short supply. Others may have been on the receiving end of intense real-talk about how to take their grandiose plans (Sagittarius) and marry them with the step-by-step actions required to bring them into manifest reality (Saturn).
Maintaining real faith in life – versus mindless positivity or fundamentalist regurgitation – is a product of finding one’s encouragement in successfully navigating the day-to-day grind and not just in the awe-inspiring moments of life.
Everything else we think we know or feel is just theory until we apply it in the real world, Saturn’s favorite place.
This New Moon is about integrating everything you’ve learned during Saturn’s three-year transit of Sagittarius and taking it forward, a process that will unfold over the next two weeks, five months, and the rest of your life. Although Saturn’s work in this part of your chart is done for the time being, the work itself is never really over.
An important component of this process may be remembering who you were before and appreciating how far you’ve come since then. Though it wasn’t easy, every frustration and denial Saturn sent your way was not for naught – it was to prepare you for this very moment.
The fertile ground you now find yourself in is the perfect launchpad for breaking out of your holding patterns and pushing forward (Saturn trine Uranus).
And sure, if you still feel the urge, say a little prayer.
Just don’t forget to show up for practice.
(If you don’t know how to pray or what to say – the best one is almost always ‘Thank You.’)
