This week is much quieter than last, which saw seven short days jampacked with a month’s worth of Astrological paradigm shifts. Many of you will be thankful for the change in pace, and indeed, for those of you celebrating the holidays this week, the quiet in the skies may neatly align with yearnings for inner calm.

The week starts with a square between Jupiter in Scorpio and the Nodes. Any square aspects to the Nodal axis act like a tipping point, with the planet in question see-sawing between the North Node (where you’re headed) and South Node (where you’ve been). With Jupiter in Scorpio, there may be an intense review of what you’re giving, and why, or a momentary check-in about how much faith or trust you have in a particular situation. Scorpio’s natural tendency towards intensity and cutting through the BS may work against you right now, as the situation before you may not be as black and white as you believe. And, with the Mercury retrograde having only ended just yesterday, your mental capacities could still be a little bit fuzzy.

Christmas Day itself holds Venus’ entry into Capricorn and her subsequent partnering with Saturn in the same sign only minutes later.

In Capricorn, Venus is all about the brass tacks business of partnership. She’s not catch-me-if-you-can like Sagittarius or look-deep-into-my-eyes like Scorpio, her style is more elegant and refined: her wine is Italian, her bank account is Swiss, and everything else? Oh, that’s cashmere, darling. And if you’re lucky enough to have Venus in Capricorn natally, like Cindy Crawford and John F. Kennedy Jr., you too may own a pair of cheekbones that could cut glass (Capricorn rules the bones).

Capricorn is also the Venus sign least likely to end up in a bohemian squat, head over heels in love with a starving artist. Reserve your judgments, whatever they may be – while Venus in Capricorn may prefer financial solvency to free-wheeling, she’s no gold-digger. Venus in Capricorn knows that while love may often start off filled to the brim with excitement and erotica, at some point, the effects of Cupid’s arrows wear off and things start to get really real, really quickly. Venus in Capricorn is in it for the long haul, whether that’s expressed through her impressive understanding of her Roth IRA or what makes long-term love keep ticking. This includes aspects of love that first appear distinctly un-sexy, like ‘duty’ and ‘responsibility.’ During Venus’ transit of the sea goat sign, you may have an opportunity to bring a slice of her pragmatic, long-view appreciation into the part of your chart ruled by Capricorn.

Venus and Saturn combining on the same day, and on Christmas Day, suggests that the presents under the tree may be fewer but of better quality; there may be an overhaul feeling of austerity to the gifting element, too, as Saturn likes to clamp down on the kinds of petty indulgences Venus normally loves. (If that sounds like a bummer, please read this).

On the other hand, Venus and Saturn combining makes for a great Astrology aspect for marriage proposals and long-lasting, high-quality gifts of a certain age, like estate jewelry, antiques, or first-edition books.

Things remain quiet the next several days until Mars trines Neptune on December 28th. Mars is drive and ambition, and Neptune is everything idyllic: if you’ve booked in a post-Crimbo holiday, you could be on cloud nine. For the rest of us, this is the best day to get in a bit of 2018 brainstorming: what fuel do you want powering your dreams next year? If you’ve got creative projects on the go, all the better –  today could provide a significant push forward in putting the pieces together. Mars and Neptune in cahoots are also somewhat notorious for, ahem, getting out of one’s normal level of consciousness, so watch the eggnog (although it’ll likely be fun, and perhaps, creatively inspiring).

December 29th holds the third and final Mercury in Sagittarius trine to the North Nodes, an aspect that first occurred on November 19th and then again on December 16th. Messages and communications initiated at that time can now finally move forward with relative clarity.

The week ends on New Year’s Eve and a lovely banter-inducing Mercury trine to Ceres, Goddess of mothering and nurturance. Supportive words of cheer and good vibes could be bandied about rather easily tonight, and with the Moon in Gemini (which loves to chat!) this is a great night to be out in the crowd, making new friends or engaging in a bit of verbal volley. If you’re staying in, the atmosphere is ripe for cozy times that include good food, one of Ceres’ significations.

And that’s all she wrote folks – both me, now, and the fates, for 2017.

Wishing you a wonderful start to 2018. ♥
