Astrology Transits for January 14th to January 20th: Venus in Aquarius
Please note I won’t be writing transits January 21st – 27th (and possibly longer if needed) as I’ll be moving from Dubai to London this coming weekend.
This week holds a load of sign changes, as Venus enters Aquarius, Vesta enters Sagittarius, Pallas-Athena enters Taurus, and the Sun enters Aquarius.
First up, Vesta’s moves into Sagittarius on January 14th. Vesta in Sagittarius is the holy hermit on a long-haul mission: she wants the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help her Goddess. With Vesta in the sign of the Centaur, we may feel moved to seek higher wisdom, or re-dedicate ourselves to traveling the wide open road. As Jiddu Krishnamurti, says, however, ‘truth is a pathless land.’* We may need to get off the beaten path and into the unexplored wilds if we’re going to get closer to discovering our truth. Note, of course, that is not an excuse to go down a YouTube rabbit hole of conspiracy theory or to start gobbling up dogma from Hollywood’s latest guru – this is about finding the ineffable truth within. Vesta will be in Sagittarius until April 1st when she enters Capricorn.
On the same day, the Sun in Capricorn squares Uranus in Aries. If you’ve got planets in late degrees of Aries, Cancer, Libra, or Capricorn, now is not the time to suddenly take up hang-gliding. Known for disruptions and breakdowns (as well as the occasional breakthrough, brutal though it may be), this square may show up in unexpected conflicts and tensions. One side of the party may feel put upon by the other, as if unnecessary restraints or a need to follow the rules (Sun in Capricorn) is hampering their ability to show up as their unique, fully expressed self (Uranus in Aries). The middle road is the way to go, somewhere between soul-crushing conservatism and all-or-nothing individuality. Not all rules were made to be broken, dear rebel friend.
The next day is much better for powerful conversations and reflections when the first of three Jupiter-Pluto sextiles occurs. The Jupiter-Pluto sextile is one of the only outer planet transits of this year. If you haven’t downloaded it already, you may wish to check out my 2018 Astro-transits PDF, where I noted that:
Jupiter in Scorpio is likely to flush out all of our deepest obsessions, paranoias, and sore spots. Although Jupiter transits are generally ‘good,’ there’s no escaping an expansion in both the good AND the bad of what Scorpio portends. With Pluto in play, you could break down all of these internalized patterns that have kept you in a stuck place.
The Sun-Chiron sextile on the same day will deepen our ability to reach into our soft spots and come out with spiritual nuggets.
Something to ponder: on January 16th we will have six planets in Capricorn, which is the most planets we’ve seen in one sign since May 2000, when there were seven planets in Taurus (let us give thanks and appreciation to the Astro-Goddess Susan Miller for this celestial tidbit).
That’s a whole lotta goat. This once-in-a-decade configuration also appears on the same day as the New Moon in Capricorn. This New Moon holds a special place as this lunation cycle will culminate in the lunar eclipse in Leo on January 31st.
The New Moon in Capricorn, which is ruled by planet Saturn, will also be the first lunation since Saturn entered Capricorn. You may already have already started to figure out what challenges this transit has designed for you (pssst – it likely involves stepping up your game tremendously and dedicating yourself to the pursuit of mastery in a given area).
The New Moon, Venus, and Sun in Capricorn in square to Uranus and Pallas-Athena in Aries feels like a showdown between the old guard and a group of young and hungry rabble-rousers. Both hold wisdom: the old guard shows the way toward mastery, and the new kids on the block light the way to what’s fresh, exciting, and full of promise. On this occasion, however, it’s my view that tradition wins. Right now, we’re in Saturn’s house, and he sets the rules – and his only rule is work, work, work, and work. You may feel ready to set the world aflame, but I wonder if there may be a prod or two telling you to calm TF down and settle into chop wood, carry water. You’ll get there someday, grasshopper.
On January 17th, Venus squares Pallas-Athena. Normally, Venus and Pallas are two complementary parts of a whole, anima meets animus. When they meld successfully, Venus helps to smooth down Pallas’ alpha ways, and Pallas fortifies Venus’ soft touch with a bit of her armor; when they clash, we may instead feel torn between love and labor.
Only moments later, Venus rises up from her mountain hideaway in Capricorn and floats towards the airy freedom of Aquarius. Venus in Capricorn finds comfort in the old-school structure of relationships, but Venus in Aquarius bristles at the same. When in Aquarius, Venus may spend a fair amount of time han solo, even in a committed partnership, or standing out from the crowd with her cool, unaffected manner. This may not be the best sign for Venus if you’re after cuddles and closeness, but it’s positively perfect if you’d like to use absence to your advantage (it does make the heart grow fonder).
January 18th holds a trine between Mars in Scorpio and Chiron in Pisces. The urge to heal rises, and you may feel incredibly ready to meet a deep wound head-on. Mars in Scorpio will provide penetrative levels of sight, and Chiron in Pisces enough compassion to keep you feeling held amongst the feels.
January 19th is packed with Astrology.
Let’s start with what’s simple: today the Sun enters Aquarius. Happy Birthday Aquarian friends. 💜♒
Moments earlier on the same day, Pallas-Athena enters Taurus, a sign that represents the organic wisdom of nature’s slow and unfolding cycles. Thus, now is a good moment for hitting the pause button. When Pallas-Athena was in Aries, speed may have seemed the thing – the faster, the better; now, you may be weighing up whether or not that was wise or just plain willful.
The resulting square, or tense aspect, between the Sun in Aquarius and Pallas-Athena in Taurus may add another layer here: are you attempting to innovate faster than you can integrate? If so, you will feel it today, in the form of self-doubt or anxiety about accomplishing your goals. (Astro-foreshadowing: Mars and Uranus will make a serious of hectic aspects at these same degrees later this year – take note of what arises now for a preview of what’s to come…)
Also on the same day, Ceres and the North Node in Leo will oppose Juno and the South Node in Aquarius. There’s a split here between two core feminine archetypes, the wife and the mother. In Aquarius, Juno wants to approach societal partnership norms and snap them in half; in Leo, Ceres wants to help nurture your creative longings. If Juno doesn’t get what she wants, she may walk, and if Ceres’ needs go ignored, she’ll feel desperately unappreciated. So, what to do? Find a way to satisfy both these inner voices. Juno will be more than happy to accommodate Ceres’ need for creative space, and Ceres will happily celebrate Juno’s desire for romantic freedom if that’s what her heart truly desires.
The milder aspects of January 19th will help to smooth over any jagged bits. Venus sextile Vesta will help bring a touch of affection to those who need it, while Mercury sextile Neptune will make sure you have the right (dreamy) words on tap.
Right. I’m off to the UK, chaps.
